Hachiman-jinja Shrine

When Nasu Sadamori, the last grandchild of Nasu Yoichi who was the master of archery in the Battle of Genpei, came for pilgrimage to Kumano, he set up the object of worship in a Shinto shrine from Kamakura beside the river, and transferred the divided tutelary deity with planting Nagi tree. The shrine was moved to current place after being washed away by great flooding in Meiji Era. People dedicate a traditional dance called Sumiyoshi-odori, (designated Wakayama prefecture intangible folk cultural assets,) for a good harvest on November, 3.
