Senko-ji Temple

Wake Kiyomaro (733-799), who served the emperor Kanmu and helped relocating the capital to Heian-kyo, mourn his precious hawk’s death, and divided its bones into three. He buried each bone by building Senko-ji temple on Mt. Takao in Kisyu, Jingo-ji temple on Mt. Takao in Kyoto, and on Mt. Takao in Bizen, his home town. After twice of burned down, Senko-ji temple moved to a current place in the beginning of Edo Era.
